It’s all fun and games until . . .

We’ve had lots of moments over the last six months that have made me pause and take a deep breath. All the steps have felt momentous for me. Enlisting an attorney. Signing the LLC. Sending in the business license. Writing the first check to the LLC. With each step, I’m more committed to doing this. More committed with not only my current time, but with future time and energy over the next year in breathing life into this business. Friends have asked me how I’m going to homeschool the kids and run this business. The truth is that I’m not really sure. I’m confident that we’ll find a rhythm. But, I’m not sure yet what that rhythm will be. We have many adjustments to make over the next year. This is stretching us financially. We’re also changing paradigms that we’ve been living with for almost 15 years of married life and over nine years of parenting. We’re expecting it to be messy and challenging. It already has been. The truth is that there’s probably more that we don’t know than what we do know. But, what we do know is solid. We do know that we want to be involved in job production for those living in poverty. We do know that we’re creating a product that is clean both morally and environmentally. We do know that our customers will be getting soap made with the highest quality ingredients that we could find. We do know that working to prevent human trafficking through job creation is something that makes our hearts sing. We do know that making a living with our intellect and creativity will feed our souls. We do know that modelling hard work and calculated risk-taking is something that we want to do for our children. So, here we go. I ordered lye yesterday. We need to finish ordering essential oils, and a couple of tools to tap our barrel of coconut oil. We’ll likely start production in the next two weeks. I’m looking forward to introducing your to our Fair Trade vendors.
